British Values

Netherhall Learning Campus is committed to serving its community. It recognises the multi-cultural, multi-faith and ever-changing nature of the United Kingdom but also educates children about the rich history of Britain.

 PR-75

Netherhall St James CofE (VC) Infant & Nursery School is founded on Christian faith. As a church school which serves a diverse population we recognise the importance of teaching our pupils mutual respect for those of different culture or faith, and the shared values of Christianity and other major world faiths.

Our RE programme includes the Calderdale and Kirklees syllabus and focuses predominately on Christianity and Islam.

At the infant school British Values are reinforced on a day to day basis through the personal development of the individual (often termed ‘the hidden curriculum’), the forming and maintaining of relationships, self-esteem and positive behaviour. We also offer regular activities and opportunities to our pupils which deliberately promote British values.

Democracy

Regular surveys of parents and carers, pupils and staff inform the school’s self-evaluation. The School Council members from each class are voted for at the beginning of the year by its pupils. Children's views are sought with regard to the curriculum and collective worship.

Individual Liberty

Pupils are encouraged to know, understand and exercise their rights and personal freedoms. Many of our worship themes examine what is the right and just way to behave, and how our behaviour impacts on others near to us but also overall on the wider community.

Mutual respect

Children learn the principles of our core values through collective worship. Staff are good role models. Respect is regularly featured in worship and reflection, as well as in how staff deal with behaviour.

Tolerance

At the infants we know it is important to have our own views but we are learning to respect the views of others too.

Rule of Law

It’s really important to us across our Campus that everyone is safe and happy. We decided our school rules as a community with teachers, pupils, support staff, parents and governors.
