What will I learn in this subject? 

Year 1

The students will be shown the course set up, the subject content, assessment criteria and mock tests.
They will learn the skills that are necessary to pass the course in Years 10 & 11.

Year 2 & 3

  • Understanding the Body and Supporting Technology for Sport and Activity. (Internal Assessment)
  • The Principles of Training, Nutrition and Psychology for Sport and Activity. (External Assessment)
  • Applying the principles of Sport and Activity. (Internal Assessment )

What can I do after? 

BTEC Sport can lead on to a variety of possible careers; sports coach/leader, physiotherapist, PE teacher, sports nutritionist, fitness Instructor, personal trainer, referee/umpire, events co-ordinator and many more. Any achievement in this course can be used as part of an application to a potential college or employer along with other grades you have achieved when you leave school. For many courses/places you will be accepted at the discretion of an individual college or employer. Most will require interview and/or an assessment. Please check with the relevant college or employer. This Sports qualification is nationally recognised. Achievement of a merit grade at level 2 together with four GCSEs grades A*-C (including English Language and Mathematics) could for example, lead to a BTEC level 3 extended diploma in Sport, at selected Colleges.


Anything else I need to know? 

You will need to: 

  • have a good attendance and punctuality record.
  • have a good behaviour record.
  • have a real interest and commitment to the subject.
  • be prepared to hand in all coursework and assignments on time.

How is it assessed? 

Year 9
100% theory.

Year 10 & 11
25% External exam.
75% Internal portfolio.
